South Australia has officially opened its General Skilled Migration program for the 2024-2025 period, inviting eligible skilled workers to apply for state nomination. This program aims to address the state’s labor market needs by focusing on both onshore and offshore applicants, offering a range of opportunities for skilled professionals to contribute to South Australia’s economic growth.
Onshore Streams Now Open
For those currently residing in Australia, South Australia’s onshore streams are now accepting Registrations of Interest (ROI). With 464 occupations available, eligible onshore applicants can submit their ROI if they meet the necessary criteria. Successful candidates will be invited to apply for state nomination through one of the following streams:
Skilled Employment in South Australia: This stream is tailored for applicants with work experience in South Australia within their skilled occupation, demonstrating their commitment to the state.
South Australian Graduates: South Australia continues to retain local talent by encouraging graduates who have studied and are currently working in their skilled occupation within the state to apply through this stream.
Outer Regional Skilled Employment: Targeted at addressing skill shortages in the outer regional areas of South Australia, this stream is open to applicants working in these regions in their nominated or closely related occupation.
Offshore Stream Targets Skilled Workers Abroad
For skilled workers residing overseas, South Australia is also welcoming applications through its offshore stream. A total of 427 occupations are open to experienced workers from abroad. South Australia will review SkillSelect Expressions of Interest (EOI) from offshore candidates, with regular invitation rounds expected throughout the year.
The first round coincides with the program’s opening, followed by monthly rounds starting in September 2024. Applicants are advised to keep their EOIs current and ensure that South Australia is selected as their primary state of interest.
Business Innovation and Investment Program Update
South Australia’s Business Innovation and Investment Program is currently closed for new applications under the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188). However, individuals holding a provisional subclass 188 visa may still apply for nomination under the extension stream or for a permanent visa (subclass 888), provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
Application Fees
Migration South Australia has updated the application fees for state nominations in the 2024-2025 general skilled migration program. Notably, submitting a Registration of Interest will not incur any fees, making it an accessible first step for eligible candidates.
